Experiments in distributed imag(in)ary
The Olympic Arcades Laboratory is many things:
- a series of imag(in)ing mash-up experiments.
- an investigation into the operation of imag(in)ing protocols (jpeg and kml) and code as actant.
- a series of experiments looking at ways of approaching imag(in)ing as an issue of code.
- an exploration of the materiality of the virtual image in terms of image as code.
- an investigation of the interface between software studies and visual culture studies.
- an attempt to create an Exploit (Galloway and Thacker, 2007) within the space of distributed imaging.
- oh, and a ‘practice-led PhD’ taking its inspiration from Walter Benjamin’s Arcades Project by Paul Caplan of the Internationale at Birkbeck, University of London.
